View Full Version : Protien makes you soft??
Steel Reserves 12-01-2005, 01:34 PM I don't know what my bf% is but it seems I'm on a constant mission to lower it. Since getting back into lifting I've been getting stronger and noticing changes in my body, but I'm having trouble getting my bf% lower and making the muslce more rock solid. A guy at work told me it's because of all the protien I consume, which doesn't really make sense to me. I figured that lowering bf and getting the muscle's really hard was just something that would take time and effort, but now of course he's got that floating around in my head. My diet is very good although I suppose I do cheat a little too often, I train hard, never miss a workout and am faithfull to the treadmill all in an effort to lower my bf% and get rock hard muscles; for the moment I don't care at all about gaining tons of mass, I want to be very hard.
Any thoughts or ideas about what I may be doing wrong or could do differently? Is there anything else I could be doing to help lower my bf%?

wheelzdgh 12-01-2005, 02:43 PM to me vascularity and hardness is all a result of diet and routine, but you know all that, so why are you asking us?? LOL, seriously though, whats your goals right now, are you on, if so, what??? Whats your diet like bro??

lol Yeah I know, it's just such a slow process damnit!! hahaha. I do feel my bf% is getting lower because my abs are coming thru more and more and my waist line is dropping and I've got some good cuts going on, it's just that when I grab the skin on my arm it seems like I have alot of extra skin you know what I mean? I'm not on anything at the moment, my diet is very high in protien, low in carbs that I get in mostly in the morning and early afternoon. Weekends I let loose on the diet a bit and carb up some. Goals are to continue gaining strength and lowering my bf%. Like I said at present time it's more important to me that I get hard and ripped than huge.
My diets pretty clean I think,
10am-11am: 4-6 egg whites with 1 yolk
glass of o.j
Muscle Milk shake mixed in water(only on training days)
1pm: Workout
2-2:15 Post workout MRP shake
3:30 1-2 cans of tuna
4:45 Whey protien shake in water(usually only on training days)
6:15 1-1/2 to 2 chicken breasts
9:00-9:15 1-1/2 to 2 chicken breasts
11:45-12am Whey protien shake in water
Thats pretty much my game plan mon-fri, and of course stick to it on the weekends too but let loose a bit more.

skeet225 12-01-2005, 03:20 PM protein isnt making you soft. Your on the right track bro. Just keep up what you are doing and the results will come. You said your abs are starting to show through, you must be hardening up at least a little bit, you probably just dont notice because you are looking at yourself every day. Keep training

muscle_n_blood 12-01-2005, 04:09 PM I have a harder look and feel if I get most of my protein from solid food instead of powder, especially whey. I still try to get at least 350 to 400 gm a day though.
wheelzdgh 12-01-2005, 04:30 PM It might be a genetic thing also, my brother and I had the same routine and the same diet, yet he is always more lean and a lot more vascular and hard compared to me, I had to work harder, thats what I think your problem is, diet looks fine, although I love Muscle milk, it is a fat lovers dream, but other than that....

Thats interesting, I do try to eat as much real food; the shakes are just so convenient ya know.
Oh an Wheelz, yeah muscle milk is def. a fatty's dream shake LOL. That why I keep it to training days only with breakfast.

Same here. I can't get enough protein in my real food, reason why I take 3 to 4 shakes a day. I have the impression that everything containing milk (including cottage cheese) makes me fat
muscle_n_blood 12-06-2005, 04:29 PM I only have to cut out dairy about 6 weeks precontest. Lactose in any form or amount tends to bloat me a little, but I'd be shit outta luck if I couldn't utilize milk protein when bulking.
