Wow! ok,

Im at the gym. I'm doing DB presses for delts on the small delt chair. I let the rubber coated 120s fall about 3 ft onto the 1"thick rubber mat we have on the floors. Its then from 15 feet away to my left some idiot says " If you're dropping them they are too heavy for you".

I tell him "I'll worry about that so mind your own business"

He sits there and says I dont know what Im doing and I should listen.

Once again, now I say mind your own FUCKING business!

He makes a few snotty remarks under his breath that I ignore. He laughs to himself - I ignore.

In the middle of my next set he chooses to walk over and do a series of bizarre stretches behind me. I finish the set.

After the set I say WTF is your problem? Cant you just FO already?!!!?

After I rack the DBs on the rack and face him he gets up all fast and shit.
So I walk up and ask him if he wants to go outside to finish Our "discussion" and he has nothing to say.

About half and hour later this clown follows me to the benches and is still muttering under his breath! LOLLOL

Im calm and realize that he is just pathetic. I ask him what hes laughing about and he yells "dont threaten me" as he stands there with his knees out and shoulders flarred to look bigger. (This guy is about 40 and a lumpy 250 at 6ft)

WTF are you talking about? Why are you standing like a retard? Are you fucking stupid or something?

He says I threatened him earlier because I said I was going to take him outside.

I told him there was a strong legal difference between threatening and asking someone if they'd like to "talk" outside.

He say's Im calling 911 if you threaten me again.

All along there were two guys witnessing the whole thing. I ask them both in front of him if they heard me threaten. They did and one guy says " I got your back!"

I look at dipshit and say " Well there you go! I didnt threaten you. Just curious, what exactly are you going to tell 911? That youre a big pussy who runs his mouth and got into more than you can fight out of?

He left without any more crap

I hope I never see him again.

Man, I need a different gym :biggun

onto more important things...that is fucked up bro. just shake it off. look at it this way, he is jealous and wishes he could be more like you. so, what does he do? he immediately finds some kind of flaw that you have and makes a big deal out of it so he can feel better about himself. just forget about it. you have more important things to think about. but i mean...what nerve!? what a fucking asshole! 2gun:

Well, why do you drop your weights?

i'm not being a smartass. i'm just answering my point of view on this question. whenever i go to failure, i'll drop my weights. i usually will try not to let them fall more that 2-3 feet. i drop the weights because i go to exhaustion. i always try to go to failure to recruit more muscle fibers to work.

Bump. Our gym owner frowns on us dropping his shit and rightfully so. If I caught guys dropping weights or squaring off in my gym I'd ask them all to leave.

I drop the weights. You really think 100+ Lb rubber dumbbells were not made to be dropped? I'd rather keep myself injury free, than worry about loud noise.

I guess I'm surprised you guys have trouble handling that amount of weight.

Yah, I usually drop the bells after doing chest press. Big f'in deal. I don't slam 'em down. They're rubber coated, and so is the floor.

I also drop the weight at times when I'm deadlifting. At my gym, nobody gives two shits. It's an actual gym, not an equipment showroom.

If you're training intensly and to failure it is difficult to not drop the weights. And who gives a fuck, they're weights. It's not like they break from a couple foot drop.

This aint fuckin Curves...real gyms are loud, get used to it.

Its real nice to see you again buddy. I know you are concerned about me. Its ok. The rubber coated weights and the 1" thick rubber mat will be fine without your instruction. Trust me- everything will be fine.

so what your telling me is that when you put up 120lbs db's until failure
you lower them down real gentle like with your fore arms and shoulders?
or when your dead lifting 460 until failure you gentely put down the weight?
get over yourself and let the guy say what he wants!

I never put my bi's in danger of tearing, or any other muscle for that matter. On the other hand I've been training long enough where I know how to put weights down without dumping them. 99% of the time it's easier for me, and safer, to bring them down on my last rep and sit up with them on my thighs, and then stand and rack em. I never do db presses till failure. There's to many other ways to get the same results without putting your teeth on the line.

But if some puss trainer came up to me and told me to do ANYTHING I'd probably wisper in his ear, "If you ever talk to me again I'm going to bitch slap you in front of everyone. Now shut the hell up and and walk away while you can."

I'm not the biggest guy on the planet (6'0" 190), but I do 90 lb dumbells for incline bench and I've never had any problems at all lowering the weights without dropping them. 120 doesn't sound like it would be that hard to lower under control if you're decent sized person.

There are a couple little twits who work out the the gym I go to. When doing dumbell rows they drop the weights on every single set. It appears to me that they are trying to bring attention to how "much" weight they are lifting. They only use 60-80lb dumbells, so I have a hard time believing they can't lower them without dropping them. (these are the same guys who wear sleevless shirts and walk around with their arms sticking out)

Jim Schmitz, U.S. Olympic Weightlifting Team Coach 1980, 1988 & 1992 says dropping weights is not necessary 80% or more of the time, and he doesn't allow it in his gym. On the subject of lifters who drop weights in his gym, he states that "I wonder, where do these people train where they can just drop the weights without regard to the equipment or their or others’ safety?"

http://www.ironmind.com/ironcms/opencms/IronMind/Lifts/lifts3.html

I would agree that 120lb dumbells are probably not that likely to cause damage (compared to the weights put up by olympic lifters). Still, if those guys can lower the big weights without injury and without dropping them, I do wonder why so many guys using relatively light weight drop them constantly?

Anyway, to each their own.

all dc training is until failure so the working set is going to be heavy and ntil failure for me, I dont drop 40's and 50's but 100's yeah there are going to drop
not from above my head but from chest or waist level. As far as deads yeah the bar is going to hit hard on the last rep its just the way it is. Hey there are many
different ways to train and thats cool. I dont knock any of them....

I guess you do learn something new every day. I'd always thought people who dropped weights were just attention whores, but after reading the posts on the topic, I can see that that's not necessarily true.

For what it's worth, I am definitely not the guy from the gym. I don't say anything to anyone (not the high school chick who yaps on her cellphone headset for an hour straight so loud you can hear her from across the gym, not the fat hairy old guy who walks around the locker room naked for an hour and blow dries his balls using the hand dryer, not the guy who gets in the whirlpool without taking a shower and then farts, etc)

Hey don't knock it till you tried it. In the privacy of your own home that is... just messin'. Although it's funny to hear that cause this week, i was out of towels when i got out of the shower and had to blow dry myself in the bathroom. took a lot longer. I'll stick to towels for now. Next time i'm out of towels I could just run around my house naked till i'm dry.

Just thought i'd trow some humor into the mix.
