Can anyone tell me if it is prohibited or looked down on to give diet and nutrition advice if you're not a licensed nutritionist?

Like everone else on this board, I have learned quite a bit about nutrition and freely give advice if asked. Of course I don't advertise or make money off this. But therapeutic massage, for example, requires you to have a license no matter what. I wouldn't want to get sued or get my ass in a sling for trying to help somone lose weight or eat healthy.

I dont think you have anything to worry about Bone.
All your doing is giving advice and if it came from Freakz, that REAL good advice. I've trained and helped countless of people and have never been burned......then again, you pick and chose who you decide to spend you time with. I'm pretty sure you wouldnt try to convince a total prick into upping his protein intake and doing more cardio to lose bodyfat when he treats you like a prick.

if youre considering "training" people for money, i suggest you get a contract written out, it just has to have the basics, ie~your not held responsible for injuries, what EXACTLY the said client is getting for what they are paying etc...

cover your all your bases, there are alot of assholes in the world.

if you are making money off of giving somebody nutritional advise, then yes it is very illegal. although, if you are just helping people out for free, then it is perfectly legal. it's just like me telling you to buy a certain kind of shirt so you look better. when money comes into the picture, that's where it can be easy to get in trouble.

That's kinda what I was thinking. No way I'd ever expect payment for advice unless I was certified. But like the others said, people can be strange and I just want to cover my butt.

You got that right!!! Just CYA and remember, they always want to sue someone. Its a shame, but it's reality.

Good Luck
