View Full Version : those damn lower abs!!!!
Tigerpride 04-15-2004, 10:13 PM hey guys....
Im a fashion model and I am about 6'2 180 with about 8% BF. I am pretty ripped and my abs look great....except the fucking lower part....I have been slacking on my cardio....but does anyone have any tips to burn the fat on my lower abs better?? Any kind of cardio that targets that shit??? I need help guys!!!! I got a photoshoot coming up and i gotta get that shit like whoa!!!
Demon 04-15-2004, 10:27 PM Sorry, man. You know what they say: Abs are made in the kitchen. There is no exercise to target fat deposits on lower abs, just overall cardio and diet. Drop your body fat and you will see it. I've been in your shoes and I know how hard it is but I don't think there is any other way. If you find it - let me know: we'll shoot an exercise video and make a lot of money. :)

jackedupcrazy 04-16-2004, 12:39 AM Unfortunately bro the way your abs look is going to be based on what you were born with. Take a look at all the top pros in bbing and you will see what I mean. IMO- Lee Priest has the sickest abs in the history of the sport....unreal 8 pack---greek God looking
Then you look at Mr. O and see that his abs really do look like shit. Even if he didn't take the ridiculous amounts of growth....he still wouldn't have the shape Lee has.
Don't dwell on the fact that you can't get your lower abs in well....lots of people have that same problem.

ape1821 04-16-2004, 11:09 AM Look, all the guys up to now are right when it come to genetics. That is your lot in life.
But, I disagree when it comes to the whole diet thing.
8% bf and you need to take care of your diet? Sorry guys (I mean it very respectfully), but let us say, you lose a percentage or two more; how much better do you think that your abs will get. Not that much. It is not worth it when you consider consider the dieting effort that you will have to apply.
I am taller than you, but our body types are similar; so take it from me:
180 lbs at 6'2'' is thin. I am thin, too, for my height so do not take it personally. You are cut and ripped, but you are not muscular enough. You do not have to be, but I am willing to bet that your lower abs are undertrained.
So, even if you do not want to get mass anywhere else, I would recommend you start making those lower abs develop and grow.
Twice a week, one set of reverse crunches done the right way (knees going up and down strictly with no motion towards your face) to excruciating, painful failure is enough. More is not better. You are not trying to cut but to build.
To give you an example: Normal crunches with 70 lbs on my chest I can do about 40 reps before I hit failure. The exercise that I just described with no weights I can do about 10 before failure.
So, you see what a huge imbalance there can be between the upper and lower abs. And yes, my upper abs look good and the lower ones... well, are getting better
See for yourself if you have the same imbalance. Put some more meat down there and you will be fine. Then, dieting may help to bring out the details.
Tigerpride 04-16-2004, 02:18 PM well it kinda sucks because i was 6' 2 210 about 6 months ago with 11% bodyfat....my agentcy ust told me that i need to be a lot slimmer and lean....they wanted me to lose muscle along with some fat.....its sucks....but its the price you pay to be a damn model.....o well.....well lastnight i kinda cheated on my diet....i had about 2 low carb beers and then i got so fucked up off a vicodin that i went to IHOP and ate eggs with pancakes.....im thinking about doing like 3 ours of cardio a day
fo rthe next 3 days and just be ultra strict on my diet...and im sure that my abs will look a lot better......you think????
ape1821 04-16-2004, 03:22 PM This is the problem with cardio: in a few minutes, you have destroyed the work of hours. But, hey shit happens.
Of course, with a lot of cardio and strict dieting you get back to "normal" very quickly.
But, you see, these are emergency measures and you cannot habitually depend on them. But, they do have their place like now.
You need a long term plan and a short term one. The latter you have; the former, I suggested it to you; if you do things correctly in about a month you will have results (failure, intensity, no overtraining).
What I told you will not thicken your waist. To add one inch to your waist would requir you to gain something like 50lbs of muscle.
In addition, I would really reccomend to you to do vacuums like Arnold discribes them in his book; these will really narrow your waist and give you tone in the abs.
Now, when the agent says that you have to get slimmer does he or she have particular places on your body (thighs, arms, or overall)? Is he thinking of changing proportions, what ?
Do not just start losing weight, exercising, or whatever without having a clear goal in mind.
Now, get on the
:cardio:
olderthandirt 04-18-2004, 01:10 AM I really agree with everything ape said except i would just add the hanging leg raises. They are the ones with the straps that hang on the chinup bar. The thing you have to try to do is bring your thighs all the way up to your face (whether straight legged or knees bent) while keeping your upper torso from tilting back. Yes .. difficult, I know, but this gets the lower abs better than anything i have tried (and I consider my self an expert on low ab training). I have never seen anyone do these as strict and as far up as I do .Basically a reverse crunch..where your sternum goes toward your chest, and if you do them for a couple weeks you should get up to three sets of 20 reps. The lower abs in this exercise develope strength very fast so when you start you may only get 10 or 15 reps and the subsequsnt sets will drop off. But don't be dismayed as this is a hard exercise and like the squat and bent rows you will love the results. Do them frequently and you will get to three sets of 20 before you know it.
Oh and u gotta add cardio and keto diet as well!
Good luck!
