When receiving packages on my address to be sent to
is it wiser to put a fake name there with my address than my original name or does this even really matter
just curious

mixed reviews on this subject.... but what you can do, is use your name, but spell it a little wrong.
im sure i read somewhere that it is a federal offence in the us to use a fake name for mail so you may be making things worse if you do get caught, not a us citezen my self so dondt know much about it-im asuming your in the us as most board members seem to be

interesting thought as mail fraud can be added to the list of charges against you, should the heat ever come down.
its called the RICO act from way back in the 20s or something. it was designed to nab mobsters and such during prohibition for mail and wire fraud, since they couldnt seem to get them on anything else. therefore, the penalities, etc were much steeper.
possesion or whatever would probably/usually be a misdemeanor but mail fraud is often a felony.
interesting slant to the game.
but doesnt stop the theory of fake name etc for being able to "deny it".

Personally, I use a private mail box, like mail boxes etc. that has 24 hour access. I made sure that the box I got is big enough to hold any package that I am likely to receive. That way, when I go to pick up at midnight, nobody is around.
